The second fixture this Sunday was another home game against Little Common U18s who traditionally are a very difficult team to play against.
There were several changes to the squad from last week with Louis Bass, Alfie Keelin and Rob Malila being included for this match.
The opening period was very low key from both teams and most of the play was in the midfield area, although George did have a shot saved after 10 minutes and Josh, after a great run from midfield, had his effort well saved.
We did create a couple of half chances but often the good approach play ended without any real end result on the final third of the pitch.
However, on the 20 minute mark we did score a goal which started from a throw-in to Aaron whose pinpoint cross found Spencer in the area and he guided his header past the keeper into the net.
Shortly after Josh had another shot well saved but it was Little Common who scored next from a long ball over our defence from which their striker lobbed Joe, 1-1.
We continued to press forward and were rewarded with another goal on the half hour mark and again Aaron was involved when he threaded a great pass through to Spencer who controlled the ball before slotting it past the keeper.
This encouraged us to press forward more and Aaron had a long range effort go just over the bar and Josh went on another couple of runs but again his efforts were saved. Common then pushed us back as half time approached and created a couple of good chances that were not taken by their strikers. 2-1 at half time.
The first half performance was very low key and the play in the final third of the pitch was substandard but the game was for the taking if we kept to the game plan, an early goal was important.
Well the players must have listened because we did score in the first minute after kick off. Scott went on a great run down our right flank before passing the ball into the area to George who tapped into the goal.
This spurred us on and Spencer, following a run into the penalty area, was fouled and won a penalty which he took and although the keeper saved his effort he reacted quickly to score from the rebound.
Spencer scored again a couple of minutes later when Josh sent a great ball forward and Spencer took on the defenders before scoring from close range.
There followed a period of great pressure from us and the Common keeper made three very good saves in quick succession to stop us increasing our lead.
Josh was leading the full back a merry dance every time he attacked and he had several efforts saved or go just wide of the mark and he created a golden chance for George but somehow he missed what appeared to be an easy goal.
However, our pressure finally resulted in another goal when Toby PD sent a through ball forward to Alfie H who took on the defenders before scoring.
We were in control and Josh finally got his goal just before the final whistle when he collected the ball on the edge of the area and slotted past the keeper.
However, there was just sufficient time for one final goal and again Josh was involved by sending a pass forward to Alfie H to score his second of the match.
This was a very good team performance and totally deserved and sets us up nicely for our away match against AFC Uckfield next Thursday evening.
