Newhaven U18 7-0 Seaford Town U18 (HT 2-0)
The match on Sunday for the U18s was a home game against our local rivals Seaford Town U18s. This fixture is always a tough one as the players know each other and local pride is at stake.
The team line up was a strong one as was the bench and with Tayler back in the team it was he that led the players out onto the pitch. Seaford came out and took the game to us and forced us back early without really creating any scoring chances but slowly we got into the game and started to force the pace.
Kyle had the first shot on target and although the keeper saved it the ball dropped out of his arms but there was no one following up to score. Shortly after the ball was won back and released to Kyle who passed it to Jamie but just as he went to shoot the ball bobbled and his shot went wide.
We were pressing more now and after good approach play by both Jamie and Chas the ball went to Kyle whose shot went over the cross bar. Will then had a shot following great team play.
Seaford were under extreme pressure and conceded a corner which was delivered accurately into the penalty area where George connected forcibly and his header flew into the back of the net. 1-0.
We were in control now and another shot from Kyle was saved by the keeper on the half hour mark. Kyle then had another shot saved a couple of minutes later but again the keeper fumbled with the ball and Jake following up tapped the ball into the net, 2-0 at half time.
The half time talk was very positive and the team were told to continue to press and pass the ball quickly. There were several changes at this stage with Jack replacing Matt in goal, Sam for Chandler and Harry for Brent but the overall plan remained the same.
The team started positively and scored after a couple of minutes after the restart when Kyle went on a run passing several defenders before playing a one two with George and then shooting past the keeper.
We scored again after 50 minutes when we were awarded a free kick which Kyle took and the ball went through all the players into the back of the net.
Sam then went on a great run up the right side and although he was being fouled he still managed to get his shot away but it went wide. Jack in goal was mostly a spectator but he had to be alert and make a save from a long range effort.
Brandon had come onto the pitch, along with Dylan, and it was from one of his long throws that we scored our 5th goal when the ball was headed onto Sam who slotted it home.
Jamie then got into the act and scored following great play from Kyle who took on several defenders before passing to Jamie who controlled the ball before passing a couple of defenders and shooting home.
Our final goal came from a penalty awarded in the 75th minute and was taken by Kyle who converted at the second attempt after the referee decided the first attempt had to be retaken.
The game was won but Will took a free kick late on and his cross was met by Harry but his header flew over the bar.
There were no further goals so the final score was a 7-0 win and the first for this years’ captain Tayler, the team had played very well and all the players should be very satisfied with their performances. I would like to mention the referee, Steve Hughes, as he officiated this match extremely well in a calm and controlled manner.
