Match Report

Newhaven U18 7-0 Ringmer U18 (HT 3-0)

This Sunday’s fixture was a home game against local rivals Ringmer U18s who are always a difficult team to play against.

As usual there were team changes with Matt Cramp returning into goal and being made captain for today and Ryan Hill moving from the back line to be our main striker and Jake Baker-Cliff in midfield.

The plan was to use our speed down the flanks to provide crosses to Ryan with support coming from the midfield players.

The day was sunny and with no wind it was ideal for good football. We started very brightly and our plan was being followed and Ringmer were soon on the back foot.

Our first goal came after 4 minutes when Sam made a great pass out of defence to Kyle who went on and passed several players before crossing over for Ryan to tap into the net. This was the positive start that we had wanted and we kept pressing forward with Kyle and Sam taking on the defenders and crossing the ball into the penalty area.

It was such a move that created our second goal, on 15 minutes, when the cross from our right found it’s way to Charlie who re-crossed the ball which fell to Ryan to tap the ball into the net for his second goal.

Kyle then sent over another cross but Jake’s header went wide of the goal. A few minutes later Ryan was presented with a simple tap in again but he somehow managed to scuff the shot and the keeper easily saved it. Another great cross by Kyle from a free kick was not collected by any of our players and it went harmlessly out for a goal kick.

Ryan was not to be denied his hat-trick and this came after 31 minutes, from a great move out of defence when Matt threw the ball out to Sam who moved forward before releasing a great pass up the wing to Ryan who went past the defenders before scoring under the goalkeeper.

At this stage we were in control of the game and Chandler had a long range effort go over the bar. Ringmer were not really causing us too many problems and any they caused were usually because we slackened off and got a little careless. 3-0 at half time.

The half time discussion was a fairly relaxed one for a change but the players were reminded that Ringmer would likely come at us but that if we regained the initiative we could extend our lead. There were 4 substitutions made at half time with a debut for Jamie Stevens up front.

It was Ringmer who made an early attack but their shot went wide and from the goal-kick we attacked to win a corner but the resulting header went wide. Sam then had a shot which was deflected for another corner from which Dylan had a shot saved for yet another corner.

We extended our lead after 52 minutes when Chandler went on a great run down our right flank taking on defenders before shooting from a narrow angle into the net.

He scored again later when Jamie collected the ball then controlled it before slipping it between two defenders for Chandler to run onto and go past the keeper to score his second goal.

Jamie then scored after 75 minutes when he collected the ball in midfield and took on the defenders before slotting the ball home.

Ringmer then had a rare attack from which Matt had to save a long range effort. Jamie was now causing problems up front and he caused the Ringmer keeper to save with his shot and Kyle then got into the act by ghosting past players and sent in another great cross but nothing came from it.

The final goal came a couple of minutes before the end when Jamie again collected the ball in midfield and went forward and shot past the keeper into the far corner.

A much improved performance and every player should be pleased with their contribution in the game because they listened to the instructions and kept to the overall plan.
