Newhaven FC Youth Team Manager Kieran Ridley gives his views on the 2012/13 season.
“Another season gone past, and firstly another congratulations is required for the first team for another promotion.
“In terms of the youth team, we’ve had a mixed season this year. Results wise, it’s been disappointing, but we don’t consider the results our first priority. Our aim is to make sure we get a minimum of 3 players retained by the seniors which we’ve made good steps to achieving again with plenty of players getting opportunities with the senior sides, and on a more regular basis as well which is good for us.
“During the season, Dave Millar also came on board to help out with the coaching and hopefully Brian, Lee & Dave will all stick around to ensure we can kick on next season.
“During the summer we brought in a larger percentage of first years than we would usually which gives us a great platform to build on for next season. Preparations have already begun having spoken to new players and had an end of season friendly with new players.
“I owe a massive thank you to the club for again trusting me with managing the team, and having personally left my other role at Three Bridges and moved to Peacehaven, we’re able to offer players a route into Ryman youth football which will only serve to strengthen the Newhaven team on top of that.
“My biggest thanks goes to the people who directly help me with the team – Brian, Lee & Dave, who I’d be useless without. I get given the majority of the credit, but really it’s those guys who deserve it.
“I won’t keep going on, I’m not the chatty type…. Fingers crossed this time next season I’ll be reporting on having been able to get results both on and off the pitch.”
