Newhaven’s staggered start to 2018 continued on Saturday afternoon as their scheduled Southern Combination Football League Premier Division fixture against Saltdean United was postponed.
The Dockers have only played once in the new year – a 1-1 draw at basement side Littlehampton Town – and now head in to their RUR Charity Cup semi-final against Pagham on Tuesday night having not played since the 6th January.
The postponement was one of eight in the Premier Division to fall foul of the weather, as the pitch at the Trafalgar Ground had surface water and was deemed unfit for play at around 10.30am on Saturday.
The fixture has been rearranged and will now be played on Tuesday 20th February, kicking off at 7.45pm at the Trafalgar Ground.
Elsewhere at the weekend, Newhaven Under-18s saw their home league fixture against Rottingdean called off. With the pitch showing no signs of drying out and more rain forecast, the decision was made on Saturday afternoon to postpone Sunday’s match.
And to complete the set, Newhaven Ladies’ Sussex Womens Challenge Trophy semi-final at Worthing Town on Sunday afternoon was also postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. The last four tie will now likely be rearranged for Sunday 28th January.
