Newhaven launch Charity Cup
On Monday 22nd October, Newhaven U23s host Eastbourne Town U23s in the first game of the inaugural Mind Sussex U23 Charity Cup.
The competition, which sees Newhaven, Eastbourne Town, Hailsham Town & Peacehaven compete in a league format for a place in April’s final, was the idea of Newhaven manager Kieran Ridley.
Ridley said, “Our division was already one team smaller before Seaford folded, so we wanted something to get people more football. Essentially that’s what the lads want, but friendlies during the season just don’t have an edge to them.”
“So we created this competition, and it’s nice to be able to support a charity doing really good work. Mental health is a big topic at the moment so hopefully between us, we can raise a bit of money and awareness.”
The competition takes place during the course of 2018/19 and will see each club host at least one home game, with the final taking place at Newhaven’s Trafalgar Ground in April.
Entry to the game, kicking off at 7:45pm, will be the usual entrance fee of £3, with a portion being donated to Mind.
