Newhaven’s Sussex County Football League Division One match against Selsey is in serious doubt, after two days of heavy rain left the pitch at Fort Road waterlogged.

The adverse weather continues to affect fixtures across the county and The SCFL this week said they will apply to The Football Association to extend the season.

SCFL Chairman Steve Nealgrove told the Worthing Herald: “The SCFL and several other leagues at Step 5 will be making representation to The FA this week to extend the playing season.

“We hope that the extension will be granted, as it has been accepted in the past when they have given a week extension.”

Newhaven Reserves, who are due to be at Haywards Heath on Saturday, have been without a competitive fixture in 2014, with their last game coming on December 14th.
