Pre-season is now in full swing at Newhaven Football Club.

Training has been ongoing since mid-June, pictures below, and both adult teams have now taken part in friendlies.

On Saturday 6th July a Newhaven XI took on Saltdean United at the Downs Leisure Centre. The game, played in scorching conditions, finished 4-2 to Newhaven.

A week later the Dockers were let down by Rustington, who had double booked, so they had to wait until the 20th July before playing again. Tonbridge Angels were the visitors to Fort Road and goals from Ebou Jallow (2), Lee Robinson and Naim Rouane saw Newhaven run out 4-1 winners.

On the same day the Reserves had a game to forget as they were heavily beaten 7-2 by Old Varndeanians of the Brighton Premier League.

Another home game followed for the First Team on the 27th July with Cobham this time travelling from London to the south coast. The Combined Counties side were comfortably beaten 4-0 thanks to goals from Jake Holmes, a new signing from Broadbridge Heath, Lee Robinson (2) and Tyler Goatcher, who has re-signed after an injury hit year at Lancing.

The Reserves turned in a much better performance as they beat Royal Hove 4-1, but then on Wednesday 31st July they lost 4-2 at home to Peacehaven United.

Newhaven then travelled the short distance to Peacehaven & Telscombe on Friday 2nd August and were on the end of a hiding, losing 9-2 to their ruthless hosts. Ebou Jallow and Mark Probert got the two Newhaven consolations.

A week of losing to Peacehaven teams continued the following day when Newhaven Reserves went down 2-1 to Peacehaven Under 18’s at Stanley Deason.

Newhaven Under 18’s then kicked off their pre-season campaign with a big 7-2 win against Mile Oak on Sunday 4th August, again at Stanley Deason, before the First Team lost narrowly to Ryman South side Hastings United on Tuesday 6th. A late goal for the visitors saw them win 1-0 at Fort Road.
