Newhaven FC Men’s First Team have confirmed six friendlies as we build up to the start of the 2022/23 Southern Combination Football League Premier Division season.

Dockers joint-managers Sean Breach and Andy Cook have been busy since the end of the last season – just over two weeks ago – as they prepare to push on after a year of progression on and off the pitch.

With the installation of a 3G pitch ongoing at the Trafalgar Ground, all six of the our friendlies will be played away from home ahead of the season start on Saturday 30th July.

Our pre-season starts where our promotions hopes ended at the end of April as we travel to Culver Road to face Lancing on Saturday 2nd July. A side we know well, Lancing retained there place in the Isthmian League with a 2-1 Inter-Step Play-Off victory against us at the end of last season.

A week later sees us head west again as we visit Mill Road to take on SCFL Division One side Arundel on Saturday 9th July. The Mullets struggled last season – finishing second-bottom – but have since appointed a new manager and will be looking to turn their fortunes around. This fixture will be a ‘double header’ with the sides’ Under-23s also facing each other after.

Next up, on Tuesday 12th July, we travel to Mile Oak Recreation Ground to face a second of three Division One opponents. Mile Oak had started last season poorly but managed to put some results together and ended up finishing 13th. They too have appointed a new manager in the off-season and will again be looking to improve.

The last of our Division One opponents comes in the shape of ever-improving local-rivals Seaford Town. We travel to the Crouch on Saturday 16th July to take part in the annual Steve Charman Cup. Seaford enjoyed an excellent season last time out, finishing fourth in the league before eventually losing in the Play-Off semi final against Shoreham.

We then play for a second annual pre-season trophy as we head to East Brighton Park to take on Whitehawk on Tuesday 19th July for the Trafalgar Cup. After a disappointing season, by their own high standards, the Hawks replaced their management team late in the season and clawed themselves to safety in the Isthmian League South East Division.

The final leg of our pre-season tour takes us to Tunbridge Wells, where we will face Rusthall – of the Southern Counties East League Premier Division – on Saturday 23rd July at the Jockey Farm Stadium. Rusthall are another side who struggled during the 2021/22 season, finishing 18th of 20 in their league.

We then have a clear week before the start of the season on 30th July. League fixtures are expected to be released sometime around early to mid-July with our first few being played away from home while the new pitch is finished at the Trafalgar Ground.
