Newhaven’s three county teams were in action over the weekend and all played their part in entertaining games.
Newhaven 3-2 Broadbridge Heath
Two goals from Lee Robinson and one from Mark Probert, for the second week running, saw Newhaven defeat unbeaten Broadbridge Heath at Fort Road. Robinson fired the Dockers ahead early on before Gary Pritchard levelled. Probert found the net before half-time and then Robinson slotted in after the break. Michael Wood’s goal soon after made for a nervy ending but Newhaven held on to remain three points clear at the top of Division Two. Full report here.
Loxwood Reserves 2-3 (AET) Newhaven Reserves
Newhaven Reserves progressed to the second round of the Reserve Section Cup with an extra-time win at Loxwood. After a goalless first half Damian Lambert put Newhaven ahead early in the second. Elliot Hawkes scored twice to give Loxwood the lead, his second coming with just ten minutes to play, but Jack Webber equalised with the very last kick of the 90 minutes. Newhaven took that momentum in to extra time and Liam Keith got the only goal of the added 30 to take the visitors through. Full report here.
Peacehaven Youth 3-1 Newhaven Youth
Newhaven Under 18s travelled up the road to Peacehaven for a local derby Youth Cup tie. It was backs to the wall, for the Dockers, for large periods of the game but a Jonno Bennett goal gave them a 1-0 half-time lead. The Ryman team continued to press in the second half and finally managed to find a way past Luke Vidler. The hosts went ahead when they scored from a corner but were then reduced to 10-men. Newhaven threw numbers forward but Peacehaven found a third goal late on to kill off the game. Full report here.
