Newhaven’s Parafix Sussex Senior Challenge Cup Third Round match at Worthing, which was postponed yesterday (29th January), has been rearranged for Wednesday 12th February.

Despite the tie being postponed twice at Worthing’s Woodside Road, the Ryman League club will get a third attempt at staging the game.

Rule 9 (a) of the SCFA Cup Competition Rules states:

“Should the tie be postponed on more than one occasion the Competitions Committee may order a change of venue to further the Competition.”

When seeking clarification as to why the rule hadn’t been applied on this occasion, the club was told:

“This decision has not been made lightly and was due to the exceptional weather conditions plus the fact that all fixtures on the original date, and last night, were postponed in Sussex.

As you can imagine, before a fixture is re-dated numerous parties have to be consulted regarding the ground availability and also league fixtures (thus trying not to interrupt league schedules if at all possible).”

The rearranged date means Newhaven’s Division One match at Shoreham, scheduled for Tuesday 11th February, will again be moved to a later date.
