Match Report

Newhaven 3-3 Langney Wanderers (HT 2-0)
Lee Robinson (5, 14), Ebou Jallow (67)

Newhaven’s first home game of the season ended in disappointment as the Dockers let a 3-0 lead slip, ending the match with only one point to show for their efforts when three had looked to be heading their way.

The Dockers started well and Lee Robinson put them ahead in only the 5th minute, a lovely cross from Freddie Beale was met with a well placed header from Robinson as he got ahead of his marker in the box.

Just 10 minutes later it was 2-0, Robinson drove past the last defender and then finished left footed past the advancing keeper.

Newhaven continued to enjoy the majority of possession and chances but couldn’t increase their lead before the break, Seb Saunders going closest but he shot wide when well placed.

Half time 2-0

The second half started in a similar vein with the Dockers on top.  The first chance of the half arrived when the Langney keeper was forced to race out of his box to try to deal with a ball over the top from Newhaven, Robinson raced onto it first though and managed to knock it round the keeper, unfortunately though his subsequent shot from distance hit the side netting of the open goal.

It wasn’t long before the third goal arrived, Ben Earle’s cut back found Tom Cooklin who shot goalwards only for his effort to be blocked by the hand of a Langney defender.  The ref pointed straight to the spot and Ebou Jallow stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way for 3-0.

At this stage it seemed the points were in the bag for the Dockers, Langney had offered very little threat going forward and the thought of them getting 3 goals back seemed impossible, however…

Right from the restart off Langney burst straight through the middle of the pitch and poked the ball home to make it 3-1.

This appeared to rock Newhaven and their attacking threat seemed to dry up as they looked to see out the game, but with 10 minutes left things got worse when Langney were awarded a very soft looking penalty and they made no mistake from the spot, 3-2.

With 5 minutes remaining Langney got the third with a good strike across Jake Buss which went in off the far post, 3-3.

Newhaven couldn’t find a way back into the game and the match finished all square, full time 3-3.
