Match Report

Peacehaven 1-1 Newhaven (HT 1-1)
Tristan Jarvis (31)

Bank Holiday Monday means a big crowd and a local derby, as derbies often do, the game ended all square with Newhaven having to settle for a share of the points.

Newhaven started brightly and had the first real opportunity of the match, Freddie Beale squared the ball into the box but Seb Saunders side foot shot was saved by the Peacehaven keeper.

It was Peacehaven who opened the scoring though after they were awarded a penalty for a push in the area, they made no mistake finding the bottom corner of the net, 0-1.

It didn’t take long for Newhaven to get back on terms, Tristan Jarvis’ free kick was floated hopefully into the box where the Peacehaven keeper came out to claim what appeared a simple catch, however he completely misjudged the flight of the ball and it dropped into the net, 1-1.

The Dockers almost grabbed a second shortly after, Beale’s cross was hooked goalward by Saunders but the keeper managed to scramble the ball clear low down at his post.

Another Beale cross caused havoc in the Peacehaven area when the keeper dropped the ball at Ebou Jallow’s feet six yards out, somehow though Jallow’s shot came back off the bar, Lee Robinson nodded in the rebound but was in an offside position.

The second half saw Newhaven remain the more likely to score, the best of the early chances came when Ian Robinson’s low cross from the left was side footed wide by Lee Robinson when well placed.

Peaceheven were dealing with most of what Newhaven had to offer but were not really troubling the Dockers goal as Jake Buss had a fairly quiet second half.

Newhaven had another great chance to score when Rhys Smith found himself unmarked in the Peacehaven area, but his header from Kyle Woolven’s corner flew wide of the left hand post.

The Dockers almost took all the points in the last minute, Woolven’s corner found Jarvis at the far post but his volley sailed over the bar meaning the game finished all square.

The Dockers final game of the season is this Saturday when they host Shoreham (3pm k.o.).
