Match Report

Newhaven 3-1 Eastbourne United (HT 1-0)
Lee Robinson (3), Tom Cooklin (50), Seb Saunders (77)

Newhaven claim the points against struggling Eastbourne United.

The Dockers got off to a flying start when Lee Robinson raced on to a Jake Buss ball and slotted home in the third minute, 1-0.

Anyone who thought the flood gates would open at this point were wrong though as Eastbourne’s rearguard repelled everything thrown at them for the remainder of the half.

At the other end of the field Buss was untroubled as the few Eastbourne attacks were comfortably dealt with by the Dockers defensive unit.

Newhaven started the second half almost as quickly as the first, this time however it took five minutes for them to find the net, Tom Cooklin cut in from the left hand edge of the box before curling his shot into the far corner, the keeper managed to get his fingers to the shot but couldn’t keep it out, 2-0.

Whilst the result never really looked in doubt, the points were confirmed when Seb Saunders latched on to Lukas Franzen-Jones through ball and calmly lobbed the advancing keeper, 3-0.

With time running out Eastbourne were awarded a controversial penalty which they converted for a consolation goal, final score 3-1.

Next up, the Dockers make the short trip to Peacehaven on Bank Holiday Monday (11.00 k.o.).
