Match Report

Newhaven U23 5-2 AFC Uckfield U23 (HT 3-2)

The young Dockers finished their season with an excellent victory over the league champions thanks to goals from Kyle Woolven (3), Callum Connor and Lukas Franzen-Jones.

AFC Uckfield started strongly and had a few initial efforts, but nothing to really trouble Paul Woods in the Newhaven goal.

With their first real attack Lukas Franzen-Jones released Kyle Woolven who controlled the ball on his chest before firing low into the far corner to give the young Dockers the lead, 1-0.

Just minutes later the lead was doubled, Woolven’s cross was met by the head of Callum Connor and he nodded home for 2-0.

AFC Uckfield then got back in the game when a Newhaven clearance cannoned off the in rushing Uckfield striker and dropped into the net, 2-1.

The two goal cushion was soon restored though, Woolven’s free kick was headed back across goal by Connor and Franzen-Jones reacted well to head the ball into the back of the net, 3-1.

Just before half time Uckfield were awarded a disputed penalty and pulled another goal back, 3-2.

The second half, saw less goal mouth action but the young Dockers extended their lead further when Woolven hassled the Uckfield centre back into making a mistake, Woolven pounced on the loose pass and rolled the ball past the keeper for 4-2.

With time running out Woolven latched onto Luke Burns through ball and drilled a shot into the bottom corner to complete his hat trick and wrap up the scoring, final score 5-2.

A strong finish to a very good season for the U23’s.
