Newhaven return to winning ways with a close fought 1-0 victory at local rivals Saltdean.

Lukas Franzen-Jones free kick to the far post was flicked on by Robbie Keith and almost turned home by the stretching Harry Docherty but he couldn’t quite get the power to trouble the keeper.

Saltdean’s free kick from deep evaded Jake Buss and was almost turned home at the far post but Keith was there to block the attempt.

Franzen-Jones then picked the ball up and ran from deep, his shot from just outside the area was pulled wide though.

An in swinging Ben Earle free kick was then met by Docherty but his header lacked the power to trouble the keeper.

Half time arrived with the match still goal less.

The Dockers started the second half on the front foot, a long ball caused panic in the Saltdean area and the ball finally broke to Lee Robinson, he poked the ball sideways to Seb Saunders but his stretching effort was cleared off the line by a covering defender.

Newhaven did take the lead shortly after though, Franzen-Jones ran down the left and rolled the ball across goal for Robinson to bundle home, 1-0.

Newhaven continued to push looking for a second, Saunders cross to the far post was met by Robinson but his looping volley dropped onto the roof of the net.

A Rhys Smith long throw was cleared to the edge of the Saltdean box where it dropped to Kyle Woolven, his sweetly struck left foot shot was saved by the Saltdean keeper.

Woolven then turned provider when he poked the ball through for Robinson, the Saltdean keeper read the danger well though and raced out of his area to clear.

Saltdean then had an attack of their own, their deep cross was dangerous but Smith was on hand to clear at the far post.

Woolven’s smart turn on halfway opened up the pitch for him to run through on goal but his shot from the edge of the area was saved with Robinson lurking for any rebounds.

Final score 1-0.
