Match Report

Newhaven 2-4 East Preston (HT 2-2)
Lee Robinson (31, 38)

Newhaven’s nine game unbeaten run comes to an end as they fall to a narrow defeat at the hands of East Preston.

Straight from kick off you could tell this was going to be a competitive match with the game flowing from end to end.

It was EP who opened the scoring when a defensive lapse let their striker in and he made no mistake firing across Jake Buss into the bottom corner.

Newhaven were behind for less than 5 minutes though, Tom Watson’s cross evaded everyone but eventually found it’s way to Lee Robinson’s feet and his low drive tied the game.

Just 5 minutes later Newhaven had turned the game on its head, Watson’s cross was handled in the area and Robinson’s penalty was placed with power into the corner of the net.

With half time approaching EP pulled the game level again when their midfielder smashed an unstoppable shot in off the bar.  Half time 2-2.

The second half saw Newhaven start fast and it looked like they were going to be the ones to find a winner if one was coming, but a foul on the edge of the Dockers box gave EP an opportunity to shoot at goal.  The resulting free kick flew past a stranded Buss and EP were once again in front.

Newhaven went looking for the equaliser but the EP keeper was in fine form and was keeping out everything thrown at him.

With time running out the Dockers were caught by a counter attack which resulted in a rather flattering 4-2 score line for EP.

The Dockers now face a run of 3 consecutive cup games, first up is a Tuesday night fixture at home to Wick in the 2nd round of the RUR cup.
