Newhaven Ladies 4 v 0 Meridian Ladies – Match Abandoned 27mins
Sundays match against bottom of the table Meridian Ladies was unfortunately abandoned after 27 minutes of play due to an injury to a Meridian player.
With the Dockers already four goals up a potentially serious injury to a Meridian defender halted the game in the first half and as paramedics were called and failed to arrive within an hour, and the player unable to be moved, the referee had no choice but to abandon the game.
The opening goal in the first ten minutes was an own goal when a Lauren Smith corner was turned into her own net by a Meridian defender.
The second goal soon followed when another Smith corner went over the top of everyone in the Meridian penalty area but Georgia Ungoed was first to react and keep the attack alive and she retrieved the ball and swung in a cross when was met by Chloe Winchester’s head and into the back of the net.
Goal number three was an excellent strike from Paige Fowler who cut into the box and smashed a shot over the keeper into the far corner.
And the fourth inside 25 minutes was another header from Winchester from a perfect cross from the left from Fowler.
Then came the unfortunate injury soon after and this would bring an early end to the action.
Fortunately once the paramedics arrived some two and half hours later the diagnosis was no broken bones and just muscular damage which was good news.
It is expected that the match will now be rescheduled for a later date.
