Match Report

Horsham YMCA 0-2 Newhaven (HT 0-0)
Kyle Woolven 62, Ryan Knight 79

Newhaven progressed to the semi-final of the Sussex Principal RUR Charity Cup after a 2-0 win against ten-man Horsham YMCA at Gorings Mead on Tuesday evening.

Both goals came in the second half and the current holders are now just one win away from a second consecutive final after this professional display away from home.

The Dockers’ job was helped early in the match as the home side’s Ben Godfrey was sent off for two bookable offences after just 25 minutes of play.

But Newhaven had to wait until the 62nd minute to take the lead. 17-year-old Kyle Woolven’s run in to the box ended with a firm strike which beat goalkeeper Lewis Blaney to put the visitors ahead.

And centre-back Ryan Knight made the game safe with eleven minutes left to play as he glanced in James Rhodes’ in-swinging corner to double the advantage.

There were no further goals and Newhaven will now meet Crowborough Athletic for a place in the final.
