Match Report

Newhaven 3-4 Chichester City (HT 2-0)
Ryan Knight 40, Craig Bunch 42, Mark Pulling 50; Tom Groom 60, Joe Gromett 65, 85, Peter Hibbert 75

Chichester City left Newhaven reeling after coming back from 3-0 down to claim victory in an incredible Division One match at Fort Road.

The game started fairly evenly but Newhaven were awarded a penalty when Craig Bunch was bundled over in the box. John Lansdale stepped up but saw his spot-kick hit the post and go out for a goal-kick.

It was the Dockers that broke the deadlock when Ryan Knight headed in from close range, and the lead was doubled when Bunch controlled and finished from eight yards.

Mark Pulling gave Newhaven what should have been an unassailable lead when he headed home at the back post, but the visitors had other ideas.

First Tom Groom finished well past Tom Bradford to give the away side hope, then their tails were really wagging when Joe Gromett broke away and reduced the deficit to just one with a composed finish.

The hosts were looking nervous and conceded a third when Peter Hibbert bundled the ball in. And City completed a remarkable turnaround just five minutes from time as Gromett got the visitors’ fourth.

The Dockers’ day was compounded when Pulling was sent off after picking up a second booking.
