Ringmer 2-1 Newhaven (AET, HT 1-0)
Daniel Creasey 42, Ben Watkinson 105; Dave Altendorff 75
Newhaven manager Sean Breach took charge of his first match at Ringmer on Thursday evening, but couldn’t stop the Dockers from crashing out of the John O’Hara Cup after an extra-time defeat.
The loss leaves Newhaven without a win in eight games and they now have just Division One safety to focus on.
This enthralling cup tie was played in wet and windy conditions, and it was the hosts that broke the deadlock when a Dan Creasey shot took a rather unkind bounce over Jake Buss’ outstretched hand.
The Dockers were creating, and missing, many chances but levelled in the second half when captain Dave Altendorff equalised with 15 minutes to go.
Neither team wanted extra-time – in amongst an already hectic schedule – but another 30 minutes was needed to separate the sides.
The winning goal came just shy of half-time in extra-time. Lee Robinson had a goal disallowed for offside and Ringmer went up the other end where Ben Watkinson’s speculative strike floated over Buss.
