Match Report

Newhaven are through to the third round of the Parafix Sussex Senior Challenge Cup after a nervy 2-1 extra-time win against Loxwood on Wednesday night.

The visitors, currently second in Division Two, more than matched their Division One opponents and actually had the better chances during the 90 minutes to win the game.

Newhaven top scorer Tyler Goatcher’s deflected effort gave the hosts a 25th minute lead, but Loxwood levelled soon after through Dean Wright.

No further goals followed until the sixth minute of extra time when another Goatcher shot found the far corner of Paul Williams’ net. The match ended on a sour note when the visitors’ Tim Martin was dismissed by referee Robert Myhill for a second bookable offence.

Newhaven manager Paul Harrison named an unchanged starting eleven for the first time this season. Scott Edwards, Ian Robinson, Shuan Tait, Ben Robertson and Panos Markakis made up a five-man bench.
