Match Report

The fixture on Sunday 6th October was an away game against Ringmer FC at the Caburn ground.

As is usual there were changes to the team with Harry Millar and Callum Connor starting the match and Max Stevens, Daly Tucknott and Luke Burns on the bench.

We would have chosen to kick up the slope in the first half but Ringmer won the toss and did precisely that. The early exchanges were fairly even and although we played the ball out well there was a reliance to deliver the long cross field ball down the slope but these were intercepted and failed to deliver any goal scoring chances.

Players were reminded to get back to our short passing style and this created several opportunities. Josh Burns had a shot following good approach work by Martin Stephen and Harry Millar sent over a free kick that was headed by Josh and won a corner. Harry crossed this over creating confusion in the penalty area winning another corner from which Josh headed just wide.

Our first goal came just before the half hour mark when from a goal kick Martin collected the ball feeding it to Josh who passed onto Callum to take on the defence and slot the ball home.

Ringmer almost got straight back into the game but Joe in goal made a good save from a long range shot. Just before half-time the ball broke to Callum and, in a one on one situation with the Ringmer keeper, drew a good save from him.

Half time was almost on us when Ringmer equalised from a corner taken by us, they broke up field and scrambled the ball in. 1-1.

This very late goal changed the atmosphere in the changing room but the team was reminded to keep to our game plan, absorb any initial Ringmer charge and push on to win this game.

Having to play up the slope resulted in us playing the short passing game and we took control of the match. Several chances were created, a shot from Harry just over the bar, a shot from Martin just wide after good approach play by Callum and another shot from Martin following great play up the left side by Ian.

Our second goal came on the hour mark when a cross by Harry was fumbled into his own net by the Ringmer keeper. At this point Martin was replaced by Max and a couple of minutes later Harry created a chance for Josh whose shot was saved.

Harry had another shot just over the goal and then Callum pressurised the keeper and the ball broke to Josh who shot over the bar.

Ian scored our third goal, he picked up the ball, took on the defence and scored with a great shot. Toby was replaced by Daly and Jonno by Luke to provide fresh legs and to keep the pressure on Ringmer.

The reward was a 4th goal by Luke. Ian took the ball down the flank and fed Callum who then took on the defence and crossed to Luke to score.

In the end a very satisfying win that takes us up to 3rd in the division and every player contributed to this result.
