After a week’s break the team travelled to Uckfield to play a team very close to us in the league table.
There were a couple of changes with Daley Tucknott missing and Harry Millar starting his two match suspension so Jack Maltby started the match.
The pitch was very soft after the recent rain but conditions were otherwise ideal. The team started very well and took control of the game by passing the ball around and after just three minutes Max Stevens sent a cross over but the resulting header was well saved.
However after 15 minutes Uckfield started to gain control and we were then on the back foot and they got their reward with a goal.
The remainder of the half was dominated by Uckfield who squandered several good chances and, although we did get back into the game just before half time when George Collison hit the post from a corner, we were fortunate not to be further behind.
The half time talk was to get back to basics and get control and play our own passing game with several key Uckfield players highlighted for special attention.
Well all the talk evaporated within 45 seconds when Uckfield scored their second goal and they were in total control of the game after that. Jack was substituted by Joss Slowey on 53 minutes.
Uckfield scored again on 54 minutes and the team wilted. Toby Cane was substituted for Jonno Bennett and George Collison for Theo Piggott shortly after. However Uckfield continued to control the match and despite a couple of very good saves by Luke Vidler they scored another 4 goals and totally deserved their victory.
All in all a game to forget but the team will have to improve markedly if the early promise is not to be thrown away.
Team – Luke Vidler, Tom Turner, Fenton Boakes, George Collison (Theo Piggott), Daniel Green, Kieron Austin, Jack Maltby (Joss Slowey), Toby Cane (Jonno Bennett), William Herriott, Frazer Johnstone, Max Stevens.
