This Sunday, 10th September, Newhaven Football Club will make history as their new Ladies team play their first ever competitive fixture.
The newly formed side, run by joint-managers Andy Cook and Alex Ladd, take to the Trafalgar Ground field at 2pm to take on Pagham.
On the upcoming fixture, Cook said: “The Ladies team completed their pre-season programme last Sunday with an in-house game involving 23 players from the 28 registered for the forthcoming season.
“The match was surprisingly competitive and a worthwhile workout going into this Sunday’s opening league fixture against Pagham at the Trafalgar Ground.”
This inter-club match followed six other pre-season games and here is a rundown of all the results;

“Despite two wins and four defeats the standard of the opposition has been very good and most of the teams have been from higher leagues,” added Cook.
“So the matches have been tough and an ideal test for the Ladies. The performances have been very good and as pre-season has developed the team has started to gel and the signs are very promising for the league season.
“The interest in the team has really taken off in recent weeks as well. Attendances for the three pre–season home matches has been excellent and off the back of this we have picked up new players.
“With 28 players now registered and another few to add to this, the squad is very big and competition for places is fierce.
“The whole squad are really looking forward to the season ahead and there is a positive expectation for what the team can achieve in what is the club’s first season with a Ladies Team.
“The league is expected to be very competitive with four or five teams looking very strong already, judging by pre-season results.”
