Treble-winning Newhaven Ladies have now returned to full pre-season training after their magnificent first season ended in glory at the end of April.

They completed the treble by beating Saltdean Ladies in the league and then by beating the same side in the league cup final. This added to the silverware won in March when the ladies beat Burgess Hill in the Sussex FA Women’s Challenge Trophy.

With the team now promoted to the Premier Division of the South East Counties Women’s league and entered into the Women’s FA Cup, the club have moved on massively from this time last year when the side was being formed.

The ladies team have made great strides in a short space of time and can confirm that nearly all of the treble winning squad have committed to the club again for this season.

There have also been a number of new players join the club in pre-season and these will be announced in the near future.

Joint managers Andy Cook and Alex Ladd have been busy organising the training schedule and preparing for the forthcoming season.

On the challenges ahead Cook said: “We are all really looking forward to the challenge this season is going to bring. We know it will be a lot tougher but that will hopefully see us improve even further.

“Although we officially started pre-season training on the 4th July we have actually continued ticking over during the summer with some light sessions, however now the hard work kicks in.

“We have been really pleased with the new players who have come along and they will give the squad a further boost and keep everyone on their toes which is really healthy. And to keep everyone from last season is equally pleasing as a few could quite easily have played at an even higher level.

“We have a few weeks before the first pre-season friendly and until then we will look to build up match fitness so come the start of the season in early September we will be ready to go.”

Ladd was in agreement and added: “After the amazing achievements of last year the focus now shifts to the upcoming season ahead. Making the step up to the SECWL Premier Division represents both an exciting and challenging prospect.

“Everyone is aware that it is going to require a lot of hard work both physically and tactically. Pre-season gives us an opportunity to work on our conditioning and playing style. All the players are well aware of this and are raring to go.

“We haven’t actually stopped! The players were keen to keep working and with pre-season officially starting the hard work begins. As Andy mentioned we are delighted that most of last season’s players have committed to this season and the new players who have come in bring great promise with them.

“The spirit of the group is fantastic and I have no doubt that we can continue to develop and enjoy our football.”
