Football for wellbeing press release 10th October
Newhaven FC are delighted to announce the official launch date of their mental health program football for well-being. The program is aimed at ages 16+ and open to everyone, we plan to hold weekly football sessions while turning Newhaven Football club into a safe and friendly environment for everyone.
So, we would like to invite you to our launch day event on 10thOctober at 1pm which is a good networking opportunity plus a Q&A with our special guests and a chance to ask questions about the program, food drink will be provided.
We have teamed up with the Sussex FA, Footballers supporter’s federation, Fans for diversity and Kick It Out launch our event, and also to show just how serious we are about delivering a program that is open to all. We have a number of guest speakers who include:
Lucy Clark the first transgender football referee in the country, talking about gender identity and how football saved her life.
Jade Harker from the Sussex FA talking about the positive impact football has had on mental health related issues around the county.
Our goal is to show what a positive force football can be used to be, and work with local mental health providers to bring a safe and friendly environment for service users to engage in and promote how physical exercise can help lift our moods, we also want to enhance Newhaven FC as a safe environment for people to come along to.
Martin Garry Club Chairman:
“This is a great initiative that will help so many people in the community who need the support, football is a great opportunity to meet new friends with similar challenges in everyday life who will respect you for who you are. We have a great team leading this programme who are keen to get this project up and running. The football club works closely with the community and currently offer football to all ages to boys/girls/ladies and men.
There are great facilities at the club and all of them will be available for this initiative to support people who are facing these hidden challenges day in day out with limited support, we welcome everyone to the club and look forward to meeting every single one with a commitment to support you wherever we can. My special thanks to Sean and Jade who have offered up their time for this project”.
