The teams’ third match in a week was at home against Little Common, a team that is very well organised and difficult to break down.
There was a forced change because of an injury to Harry Miller with Mike Baker being drafted in.
The first half saw Common take control with their passing game and at times only resolute defending protected our goal.
However they did manage to breach our defence several times but Luke Vidler in goal made several good saves, the first from a free kick then a one on one. We rarely threatened the Common goal but on the half hour William Herriott won a header into Max Stevens but his shot went over the bar.
At half time Kieron instructed certain players to change their tactics to restrict Common’s movement and this worked. William in particular was now protecting the ball more effectively and winning free kicks as a result taking the pressure off the defence.
However Common still forced Luke to make several more saves the best being a double on the 68 minute mark.
Newhaven forced the play rather more towards the end of the match and created some chances but it was Common who came closest to scoring when they hit the post.
There was no score and on reflection a draw was just about right.
Substitutions were Ashley Foord on for Mike Baker, Ian Robinson on for Tom Turner and Jack Maltby on for William Herriott.
Vidler, Austin, Boakes, Tucknott, Cane, Stevens, Green, Turner (Robinson), Johnstone, Herriott (Maltby), Baker (Foord).
