Match Report

Newhaven 0-0 Broadbridge Heath (HT 0-0)

A game dominated by the defences saw Newhaven claim a fourth consecutive clean sheet, but they had to settle for a share of the points.

I have had some difficult tasks given to me before, but writing an exciting match report about this game may be beyond me.

Neither side really created anything of note in a low key first half.  The majority of, a very direct, Broadbridge Heath’s attacks were dealt with comfortably by the Dockers rearguard of  Jayson Sowter, Matt Gunn and Rhys Smith meaning Jake Buss was relatively untroubled in the Dockers goal.  Meanwhile at the other end a well marshalled Broadbridge defence was restricting Newhaven to long range efforts which were not particularly threatening for their keeper either.

The second half saw a slight up turn in performance but it was still the defences in command and chances remained at a premium.

Newhaven had a couple of half chances, firstly Lukas Franzen-Jones had a nicely positioned free kick opportunity but his shot was easily held by the Broadbridge stopper, and then a good chance fell to Lee Robinson but his left foot shot from close range only found the side netting.

With time running out Broadbridge almost nicked all three points but their striker’s free header from inside the 6 yard box flew wide of the upright ensuring that the points would be split.

Overall, a game that wont live long in the memory of anyone who attended, with a draw probably being a fair result.

Next up, the Dockers welcome Horsham YMCA on Saturday.
